PORT TOWNSEND — An unidentified Port Townsend man was flown to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center with head injuries after crashing his car early Friday evening.

The man, who was 36, was the sole occupant of his vehicle in the single-car wreck, said Bill Beezley, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman.

The wreck occurred at about 7 p.m. on Cape George Road about 75 yards east of its intersection with Cape George Way, Beezley said.

No identification given

Fire department policy does not permit identification of people who have been hurt, Beezley said.

A dispatcher with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the cause of the wreck, also said it would not release the name of the injured man because of privacy issues.

Hospitals will not release the condition of an injured person without a name, so the man's condition is unknown.

The white Mitsubishi Galant sedan had been traveling east on Cape George Road when it left the road to the south, said Fire Chief Gordon Pomeroy.

The car bounced back out of the ditch and flipped over, skidding about 100 feet farther down the road on its top before sliding into the ditch on the opposite side of the road, Beezley said.

After extracting the man, medics took him to Jefferson County International Airport, where they were met by a helicopter from Airlift Northwest, which flew him to Harborview in Seattle.
