The identity of the man, believed to be a Port Townsend resident who lived on a boat at the marina, was being withheld pending the investigation and notification of family, said Port Townsend Police Officer Luke Bogues.
Police officers and East Jefferson Fire-Rescue personnel were dispatched to the Boat Haven at 7:59 a.m. Sunday, after a 9-1-1 caller told police there was what appeared to be a body floating in the water.
Bogues said that an autopsy was performed Sunday afternoon.
There was no immediate indication of foul play, and toxicology reports are pending, he said.
The cause of the man’s death remains under investigation.
“The police department at this time has found no reason for residents to be alarmed for their own safety,” he said.
The body was located at the west end of the marina, near the heavy haul-out area, he said.
“He was in the water up to a few hours,” Bogues said.
