CLIMAGE CHANGE IS impacting us all — including we who live on the North Olympic Peninsula.

On the Peninsula, we are seeing warmer temperatures, shrinking glaciers, altered storm patterns and acidifying oceans.

We are among the founding members of Olympic Climate Action — — a new group formed with the mission of seeking a safe, prosperous, sustainable future for residents of the Olympic Peninsula.

Our intent is to stimulate thought, dialogue, and action in regard to climate change — to help prevent as much of the problem as we can and prepare for what we can't prevent.

As a first step in this effort, we are co-sponsoring three free public events in Port Angeles this week:

■ National Park Service geologist Jon Riedel will present “Vanishing Ice: What Happens to the Olympic Peninsula Water Supply as Glaciers Retreat?” in the Little Theater at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., at 12:35 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 10).

■ Also Thursday, the film “Chasing Ice,” followed by a panel discussion on “How Changing Climate Will Affect Us Locally: Finding Hope Among the Facts,” will be presented at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, 401 E. First St., at 6:30 p.m.

■ On Friday (Oct. 11), the film “The Age of Stupid” will be presented by the Peninsula College Magic of Cinema film series at 7 p.m. in Maier Performance Hall at Peninsula College. A panel discussion will follow.

We hope you'll join us.
