PORT TOWNSEND — Blue Heron Middle School students have been evacuated today (Friday) and will be sent home because of a bomb threat.

Parents who usually pick up their children from school are urged to do so as soon as possible, said Office Luke Bogues, Port Townsend Police Department spokesman.

Others also may pick up their children. Otherwise, the students will go home on school buses.

At about 11:40 a.m. today, a handwritten message was discovered on a school rest room wall.

It read: “Osama bin Laden, I will bomb your school.”

Police said it appeared to have been written in a student’s hand,

The 400 students have been evacuated to one of the school’s athletic fields.

By about 1 p.m., buses were being brought in to take students home and dogs were en route from Bremerton to look for a bomb, Bogues said, adding that they were stalled at the Hood Canal Bridge because it was open for passage of a Navy submarine.

The State Patrol bomb squad was at the school, but was awaiting the dogs.
