SEQUIM — A scam using the OlyPen name is making the rounds, with the aim of extracting account details from customers of the popular North Olympic Peninsula Internet provider.

No one answered the phones at OlyPen offices in Sequim on Sunday, but a contracted phone service technician, reached through an OlyPen technical support phone line, confirmed that the company was aware of the email.

“It is a phishing scam,” said the technician, who declined to give his name.

A phishing scam is one that seeks personal information about computer users, which can then be used to gain access to accounts, including banking information and other sensitive personal materials.

OlyPen has not sent any such emails, he said.

He said that customers who have received the email should forward the contents to OlyPen’s real email address —

The email contained several grammatical errors, which often give away scam emails.

The phishing email follows:

“Dear User,

All incoming mails are currently delayed, you are required to upgrade your mail box and expand your e-mail quota limit to 5.5 GB before you can continue to use your are required to complete your details below and send it to us.This information would be required to verify and upgrade e-mail account to avoid being closed. The email also asked for the user’s full name, username, email address and account password.
