Jerry Jeff Pedersen, 28, was booked into Clallam County Jail for investigation of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, a Class C felony.
A press release from the Sequim Police Department said officers began their investigation "on or about March 21 . . . [it] consisted of interviews with Sequim High School staff and students [and] the service of search warrants for cellular phone records and stored data.
"The case has been referred to the Clallam County Prosecutor's Office for review and the filing of appropriate criminal charges. At this time the Police Department has found no evidence to believe that Mr. Pedersen was inappropriately involved with any other team members or students."
The teenage girl was not identified. No other information was released.
Pedersen, a 2003 graduate of Sequim High School, is one of three assistant coaches under head coach Evan Still for Sequim High's girl's basketball team.
